Everything You Need To Build Your Own Basic Website

As someone who creates websites, I do have professional tools like Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash in my toolbox. These are popular software, and can accomplish many things and save a webmaster much time. Unfortunately, these applications are very expensive, and in most cases not software that a novice would want to invest solely to create a simple website.
Different Methods:
Today, there are so many user friendly web design software available to build a webpage. Let's take a look at some of the popular methods:
Website Builders - Using pre-fabricated templates and It’s drag and drop method of page building, you can build a website in minutes. Absolutely no html or css knowledge is required. Examples are, Wix, Yola, Webs, etc.
Content Management System (CMS), in which the user does not need to know html and css. But the user must learn how to use the "backend" adminstration modules to create a website. The learning curve varies with the different CMS's that are available. Most CMS are free, such as: Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Xoops, CMS Made Simple, etc. These applications are written in PHP and are what we call server side caching, and require Apache and usually MySQL database (or similiar) to be setup.
Coding with HTML and CSS - As you noticed, the above methods does not require the creator to have coding knowledge. To manual or hand code, you will need to spend some time in learn this markup language. It does take longer in the beginning, but in the long run, I believe it is faster. Once you become proficient in understanding scripts, you can quickly makes tweaks or changes directly into the code.
Of course one can also find a template, and make changes by using the WYSIWYG feature of any of the HTML editors that have this function. Minimum understand of html and css is required.
You will be overjoyed to learn that there is an abundance of free software and free teaching courses available to assist you in building a web page. Of course you need to set aside time, and discipline yourself to learn how to use these programs. Truthfully, this can be overwhelming at first. I encourage you to stay with it, someone once said: "How do you eat an elephant?" "One bite at a time!"
