Does Your Computer Freeze (hangup)?

Scenario, everything is fine, suddenly your computer gets stuck (freezes), no matter what keyboard or mouse function you use, nothing happens.
First, press the ESC Key, which will take you back a step. Try pressing ESC a few more times if nothing happens. If no response, than you need to go to step two.
See if you can end the program, or shut down the computer by pressing

CTRL + ALT + DEL.    If this doesn't work, the only thing to do is manually shut the power off, or reset (reboot) your PC (if it has a reset button).  Remember, to shut a computer down using the power button, you need to hold it down for a few seconds. At times like this, most of us feel like throwing our computer out the window.  Ok, so what is the problem?

Possibilities:
1) Two many programs are running at the same time. Your RAM is being asked to do more than it is capable of doing (overloaded). Close programs that you are not using.

2) Overheating - can cause your processor to hang up. Is your desktop tower stored in a confined space where there is no ventilation? Maybe the inside of your computer is caked with dust preventing proper heat transfer, or your fan vents are plugged with dust. Another possibility is that your fan is burned out and not operating. Check it out, see if you can feel air flowing.

3) You could have a fragmented and overfilled Registry due to: -Uninstalled programs that leave leftover files in the registry (in other words the uninstall doesn't cleanup itself). -Temporary files not cleaned up, it just keeps growing. These corrupted files can conflict with your program files causing problems like your computer hanging up. So you need to remove them. Caution: always backup your registry before cleaning or optimizing your registry, most registry software allow for backups.

4) Disc Cleanup - removes all the clutter caused by obsolete files, left over files from uninstall's, temp files and internet files. This action will free up your Hard Drive. If this maintenance routine is not done periodically, these files will keep building up which will affect the speed and performance of your computer. Two ways to clean up these orphaned files: a) Use one of the free third party software's found on the Maintenance Download page. b) Use the Windows Disc Cleanup Tool: Open My Computer Icon > right click on Local Drive C > click on Properties > Click General > Click Disk Cleanup Now.

Next you can choose what folders you want to clean out or leave alone.
